Need to talk?Do you need to talk to women who have experienced similar situations to yourself, whether you are living in an abusive relationship or have left and have issues regarding the abuse you have received? Guernsey has an excellent support system set up by the Domestic Abuse Forum and has recently started a self support association. This is a group of women who meet regularly to discuss any problems they may be facing regarding ongoing or past abuse issues. We have found that talking with people suffering similar experiences, helps to break the feeling of complete isolation that comes with Domestic Abuse. Finding out モyou are not aloneヤ is one of the first steps to re-building your self esteem, sharing your experiences and knowing you are helping others at the same time is also very healing. It is not an intimidating environment, you will not be asked モWhy didnメt/donメt you leave?ヤ because we know it isnメt that simple. You will not be judged. It is a safe, confidential place to talk or just listen. Nobody is going to try to take control of your situation but help will be available if you need it. If you have special needs from any organisation within the forum an adviser will be present to pass on any questions you have. If you have problems with transport or do not want to go alone to the meetings, there are people available to go along with you. If you canメt make the meetings but need someone to talk to, contact any of the numbers listed below, one to one assistance is always available. If you want more information about the group call the Domestic Abuse Helpline on ヨ 73 22 99. All enquiries are dealt with confidentially. There is no excuse for Domestic Abuse.
